Katie and Brandt were married on a radiant spring day at The Sutherland in Wake Forest. The couple’s love story began at Sycamore Brewing in Charlotte while Katie was in town to visit a friend. The two hit it off immediately, and soon began dating! When Brandt decided to propose, he knew he wanted to do so while he and Katie were traveling—one of their favorite hobbies to enjoy together. So, on a trip to sightsee in Congaree National Park, he popped the question. Katie was shocked!

A Classic Color Palette

From the beginning of their planning journey, the couple wanted their wedding day to feel timeless. As a result, Katie found herself drawn to a palette of blush, ivory, and slate blue. She loved that the shades were feminine, flattering, and would look chic for years to come! To reflect the palette, her wedding party wore floor-length slate blue gowns, while Brandt’s wore classic black tuxes. In addition, blush and ivory florals featured throughout the day, and blue linen napkins adorned guests’ place settings for a consistent color story.

Wedding Day at The Sutherland

The couple was so glad to host both their ceremony and their reception at The Sutherland Estate and Gardens. They knew that they wanted a venue where they could exchange their vows and party, and The Sutherland fit the bill. Plus, there was no need to compromise on aesthetics—the estate house was the perfect backdrop for their classic wedding day! Their outdoor ceremony took place in the venue’s walled garden to take advantage of the gorgeous spring weather and natural surroundings. Later on, they danced the night away inside The Sutherland’s massive event pavilion! The exposed wooden beams and brick walls of the space added just the right amount of rustic warmth to their romantic reception. Complete with a sparkler exit, there couldn’t have been a better conclusion to the day!

I had such a wonderful time getting to know Katie and Brandt and capturing their wedding at The Sutherland. In addition, I had the honor of shooting Katie’s bridal portraits! You can check out a few images from that session below, just ahead of the wedding day images.
