 The blog

Kat and David met while working in Silicon Valley, but returned to Katโ€™s home state of North Carolina for their wedding at The Carolina Inn! In 2017, Kat attended a vendor show at the venue hosted by Southern Weddings and fell in love. So, after David pulled off a picturesque proposal on a sailboat in the San Francisco Bay, the two knew where they would exchange their vows.

Summer Secret Garden Wedding at The Carolina Inn

After they squared away their venue, the couple began searching for a floral designer who could execute their vision of a Southern secret garden wedding. Kat envisioned a color palette of soft pastels that would imitate the aesthetic of Sofia Coppolaโ€™s Marie Antoinette. They got in touch with Jennifer Wood of Once Gathered, and on their wedding day, she made their floral dreams a reality! Lush arrangements of hydrangeas and roses in shades of peach, pink, and dusty blue filled pillar vases at the foot of the aisle and adorned the coupleโ€™s ceremony arch. The effect was luxurious and magicalโ€”worthy of a queen!

The magic continued at the coupleโ€™s reception where Wood paired elevated floral centerpieces with bud vases to create a sweetheart table bursting with blooms. In addition, a portion of the coupleโ€™s ceremony arch stood behind their chairs to frame the newlyweds. Soft blue napkins, golden Chiavari chairs, and flickering candlelight completed the scene inside The Carolina Innโ€™s opulent ballroom. Planning a wedding from across the country is never easy, but with the help of coordinator Viva Lโ€™Event, Kat and David made it look like a piece of cake!

A Relaxed Wedding Morning With Three First Looks

On their wedding day, the couple woke up at their venue and enjoyed a slow morning getting ready with their wedding parties. Then, they did several first looks, which Iโ€™m always a fan of as a photographer! David did a reveal with his wedding party, while Kat surprised her father. Her gift to him was a handkerchief with custom embroidery, and I was so glad to capture such a sweet moment between the two of them. Then, the to-be-weds came together for their first look at each other in all of their finery! Kat looked absolutely stunning in an off-the-shoulder Allure ballgown paired with a beaded floral circlet and a flowing tulle veil. Meanwhile, David looked classic in a tailored navy blue suit and a blue silk bowtie.

I loved documenting Kat and Davidโ€™s wedding day at The Carolina Inn! Iโ€™m so glad that these two entrusted me with their images, and that I could get to know them. I believe that all love stories deserve to be captured with care and finesse and that YOU deserve a stress-free wedding experience. If youโ€™re in the market for a photographer, I would love to learn more about you, your partner, and all of the exciting wedding plans youโ€™ve been dying to share! Reach out today!
