A Joyful Raleigh Wedding Story Rooted in Connection & Fun

If you’re newly engaged and searching for a Raleigh wedding photographer who values real connection, intentional moments, and a celebration that actually feels like you, Emily and Alex’s story is one you’ll love.

They met at NC State University, through mutual friends, in the Carroll Hall Conference Room — proof that sometimes the most meaningful beginnings happen in the most ordinary places. Their relationship has always been rooted in friendship, humor, and doing life side by side, which made documenting their love story especially meaningful.

As a Raleigh-area wedding photographer, I believe your story deserves to be told honestly — from how you met, to the moments you’re most excited for, to the future you’re building together.

A Proposal That Almost Didn’t Happen (But Was Worth Every Second)

Alex planned a surprise proposal during what Emily believed was a family trip to Pawley’s Island, South Carolina — with one very important detail left out: a photographer waiting on the beach.

The biggest obstacle? Emily’s legendary naps.

After a series of very uncharacteristic interruptions (including a leaf blower, slamming doors, and Alex’s persistent encouragement), Emily finally agreed to go for a walk at Pawley’s Point, where the ocean and marsh meet. With a little wardrobe persuasion and the promise of dinner plans, the timing finally worked — and the proposal unfolded perfectly.

These are the kinds of real, joy-filled moments I love documenting as a wedding photographer in Raleigh, NC — the stories that couples will laugh about forever.

What They’ve Loved Most About Wedding Planning

Instead of focusing on stress or perfection, Emily and Alex leaned into what brought them joy — including choreographing their first dance and taking dance lessons together. Creating shared experiences during planning has been one of their favorite parts of the process.

Their advice to future couples?
Elope. (No notes.)

Choosing a Venue That Feels Like an Escape

Emily and Alex knew they wanted a venue that felt secluded, peaceful, and immersive. They fell in love with Rose Hill Estate for its scenic drive, private setting, and the ease of having everything on-site.

For couples planning a wedding in Raleigh or the surrounding Triangle area, choosing a venue like Rose Hill Estate creates a relaxed atmosphere where the day can unfold naturally — something I always prioritize when documenting weddings.

A Vendor Team That Brought the Vision to Life

A thoughtful vendor team can make all the difference, and Emily and Alex chose professionals who aligned perfectly with their vision and values.

  • Planning: Chad Biggs Planning
Chad Biggs Planning brought expertise, organization, and calm energy to the planning process, allowing Emily and Alex to truly enjoy their engagement and wedding day.
  • Venue: Rose Hill Estate
A stunning, secluded estate venue that offers elegance, privacy, and an all-in-one experience — ideal for couples wanting an intentional and stress-free wedding day.
  • Florals: Expression of Love Florist
Their florals added romance and depth to the day, beautifully complementing the natural surroundings and overall aesthetic.
  • Hair & Makeup: Peach Cowgirl Hair and Makeup
Peach Cowgirl Hair and Makeup helped Emily feel confident, polished, and completely herself — enhancing her natural beauty while fitting the wedding’s atmosphere perfectly.

As a Raleigh wedding photographer, I love working alongside creative vendor teams who elevate the entire experience for my couples.

What They’re Most Excited For on Their Wedding Day

Emily is most excited about:

  • Getting married
  • Dancing with friends and family
  • Eating some really good food

Alex is most excited about:

  • Seeing Emily walk down the aisle in a gorgeous dress
  • Getting married (worth repeating)

These moments — the anticipation, emotion, and celebration — are what I focus on capturing throughout the day.

Looking Ahead to Their Next Chapter

After the wedding, Emily and Alex are excited to continue doing life together — including buying a house next year and building a future rooted in partnership, laughter, and shared dreams.

That’s what wedding photography is really about: preserving the beginning of a life you’re building together.
