 The blog

Annie and Ben’s spring wedding at Carolina Grove featured splashy pops of color and seasonally inspired details! The two were legally married over a year prior to their big day. So, they enjoyed the chance to relax and soak in their bright and cheery celebration!

From Durham to Carolina Grove

It was a freshman writing seminar at Duke University that first introduced the couple. Years later, Ben got down on one knee in the picturesque Duke Gardens! When he and Annie began searching for a wedding venue, they knew that they wanted to stick close to Durham, where they fell in love. Soon, they came across Carolina Grove!

The couple quickly became smitten with the venue’s serene woodland setting and airy modern barn. With such well-appointed indoor spaces and naturally beautiful surroundings, it wasn’t hard to imagine the wedding day of their dreams! What’s more, they fell in love with the venue’s quaint community of Hillsborough—less than 20 minutes away from Durham.

Vibrant Details Inspired by Spring

With their wedding taking place amid the full bloom of spring (and on the Saturday of Easter weekend!), Annie and Ben wanted their day to reflect the season. So, they focused on choosing a palette of bright spring colors to carry throughout their celebration. Eventually, they settled on a combination of pink, yellow, periwinkle, poppy red, and amber. I loved that they didn’t fall into the trap of choosing only pastels. Instead, they weren’t afraid to feature some bolder shades!

Bowerbird Flowers put together a gorgeous bouquet for Annie, and the colors popped wonderfully against the white of her Rime Arodaky dress. More bright hues were also featured in the couple’s ceremony and reception florals. In addition, Yellowbird Baking created a tower of colorful macarons that looked SO stunning and mouthwatering at the same time.

Even the couple’s guest favors were a tribute to spring and the holiday weekend! A wooden egg filled with fresh caramel candies from Big Picture Farm awaited each guest at their place setting. It was such a charming way to reference the season while treating each guest for being present at the celebration.

I had a wonderful time capturing Annie and Ben’s love story at Carolina Grove—and I’d love to capture yours too! If you’re interested in working with me, just leave me a little note here to help me get to know you and your wedding vision. I can’t wait to hear from you!
