Megan & Daniel
Birkby House, Leesburg, VA
September 26, 2020
There’s nothing quite like stepping into a wedding day with a familiar feel to it. Last June, I shot a wedding and briefly met Megan & Danny there. It wasn’t even a week later that they reached out to me for my availability for their July 2020 wedding. I couldn’t have been more excited, because there is nothing more amazing then referrals from my past couples! Another bonus was there wedding was in DC where I grew up, and I’m always ready to head up to DC. We did their engagement session in Georgetown last July, and it’s still one of my favorites, even though it’s always interesting doing engagement sessions in public spaces (aka the streets!)
Once COVID hit, we moved dates to December, but then in August I got a new email asking to move the wedding up due to sick grandparent, so September it was! Their wedding was close family & friends, all outdoors and luckily it was the most beautiful weather. The Birkby was the most perfect backdrop for their wedding, a historic site in Downtown Leesburg, that had hidden nooks for photo opportunities. Not to mention the stunning floral arch install done by The Garden Studio, that I used for basically everything I could!
Though Megan was pretty much a rock before the ceremony, she made both her Dad & Danny cry during their first looks, but Danny got her back in his vows, and tears were definitely shed. Post ceremony the first stop was the bar & a champagne pop to celebrate finally being married! Some of Megan’s family that couldn’t be there, were represented by giant head printouts (who I think had a little bit too much fun at the reception) which was one the of most unique “we can’t be there” subitutions I’ve seen during the pandemic.
We finished family formals pretty quickly and Megan & Danny got to spend their cocktail hour hanging out & eating, before the sun decided to come out for the first time since 2:00 pm, and we spent 5 minutes taking sunset perfect portraits before heading into the reception!
Enjoy some of my favorites from their day!
Oh my GOODNESS! These photos are so gorgeous, thank you for capturing this day so well. Of course you had excellent subjects – my niece and her (now) husband are beautiful people inside and out. It was a pleasure to see their special day unfold through these images… if you’ll excuse me from writing more compliments I need to get a tissue. My eyes are leaking!
